Getting Started

Learn how to set up your Luum Wealth account and connect your first portfolio.

Luum Wealth is a portfolio analytics platform for retail investors. This guide walks you through creating your account, setting up your first portfolio, and exploring the key features.

Educational tool only. Luum Wealth is an analytics and educational platform. Nothing in the app constitutes personalized investment advice. Always consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions.

1. Create your account

Visit app.luumwealth.com/sign-up to create your account. You can sign up with your email address or use a social login (Google).

When you sign up, you get a 30-day free trial with full access to all features — no credit card required. After the trial, you remain on the free Starter tier with one portfolio and core analytics.

2. Complete onboarding

Onboarding takes about two minutes and has three steps:

  1. Tax location — Select Canada or the United States. This determines your account types (TFSA/RRSP for Canada, 401k/IRA for the US), reporting currency, and which legal disclosures apply to you.
  2. Investment goal — Choose your primary goal: retirement, home purchase, wealth building, income, or education. Luum uses this to contextualise your strategy and gap-to-goal analysis.
  3. Risk profile & analytics consent — Set your risk tolerance. You can also opt in to anonymous analytics (PostHog) to help us improve the app.

3. Connect a brokerage

Luum connects to your brokerage via Snaptrade, a regulated open-finance platform. Your brokerage credentials are never stored by Luum — they are held by Snaptrade and encrypted with AWS KMS.

To connect a brokerage:

  1. Go to Portfolios in the sidebar and click Add portfolio.
  2. Choose Connect brokerage. You'll be taken to the Snaptrade OAuth flow for your broker.
  3. Authorise read-only access. Luum never requests trading permissions.
  4. Your positions and transaction history will sync automatically. Initial sync typically takes 1–2 minutes.

Investor tier required to connect a live brokerage account. During your 30-day trial you have full access. The free Starter tier includes a demo portfolio with 10 positions and 14 months of synthetic history so you can explore all features.

4. Explore your dashboard

Once your portfolio is connected, the dashboard shows:

  • Portfolio value — total market value of all positions, with daily change.
  • P&L Breakdown — unrealised gain/loss per position and in aggregate.
  • Returns by Period — time-weighted returns over 1M, 3M, YTD, and 1Y.
  • Allocation — breakdown by asset class, sector, geography, and account type.
  • Gainers & Losers — your holdings sorted by performance over 1D, 1W, 1M, and YTD.

5. Key features

Ticker Scores

Every stock and ETF you hold gets five nightly scores — Risk, Value, Quality, Momentum, and Dividend — each on a 0–100 scale. Higher is always better. Scores are available on the Explore tab and on each position in your portfolio. Read the full methodology →

The Strategy page gives you an AI-generated investment summary, diagnostics across risk, concentration, fees, and income, Monte Carlo projections, peer cohort benchmarking, and ETF look-through analysis. It updates weekly and can be refreshed on demand. Learn more →

For Canadian users: adjusted cost base (ACB) tracking, capital gains reporting, and a T5008-style CSV export. For US users: 1099-B CSV export. TFSA and RRSP contribution room tracking is available on the Investor tier and above. Learn more →
